On November 8, the first show of the China Biostimulant Development Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the “Alliance”) to enter the enterprise series was successfully held in Rizhao, Shandong. More than 60 representatives of member units of the alliance and related industry personnel participated in this visit to Shandong. During the activities of Jiejing Group, the delegates visited the Jiejing Group factory and Hengtai Marine Biological Factory together, and had an in-depth exchange of various seaweed products as biostimulants in agriculture and horticulture such as brown algae polyphenols, brown algae oligosaccharides and seaweed extracts in the meeting room of Shandong Jiejing Group. The development and application of agricultural materials headlines, Northern Agricultural Materials News, World Agrochemical Network, Agriculture and Forestry Satellite TV and other industry media were invited to participate in the event.
Lin Chengbin, President of Shandong Jiejing Group, said that as one of the vice chairman units initiated by the alliance, Jiejing Group has always focused on the deep research and development and application of seaweed. Through continuous technological innovation, it will provide more active ingredients for the agricultural field and human society with the best seaweed extract.
On behalf of the alliance, Liu Jian, the chairman of the alliance, affirmed the contribution and support of Jiejing. Liu Jian said that through this event, a bridge was formed and the alliance and the enterprise were more closely connected.
According to the Secretary-General of the Alliance, Sijian Xiong, the in-enterprise activity initiated by the alliance aims to provide an exchange platform for alliance member companies, allowing representatives of alliance member companies to enter into excellent companies with new products, new technologies, new formulas, and new resources. To better solve production and application problems, the alliance will first select relevant excellent manufacturing companies and research institutions to organize and enter corporate activities one by one to gain a deep understanding of the development process of biostimulants in China.
Shandong Jiejing Group is one of the vice-president units initiated by the alliance in 2016. It has a long history of producing seaweed in China and has the largest sodium alginate production plant in Asia. Its product Pale green brown algae polyphenols is the first to propose in China. It is rich in brown algae oligosaccharides, which has a very good effect in field trials and is relatively novel in the application of seaweeds. The company has established a new factory to manufacture seaweed extracts for agricultural fertilizer applications. Xiong Sijian believes that it is very meaningful to choose Shandong Jiejing Group as the first stop.
It is understood that Shandong Jiejing Group has an annual output of 3,000 tons of brown algae polyphenols and is the first domestic enterprise to realize the industrialized production of seaweed by physical method. Brown algae oligosaccharides have an annual output of 2,000 tons, which is a fine chemical product. From seaweed to oligosaccharides, it is processed through more than 20 sections with very high purity. In addition, the annual production of 100,000 tons of seaweed residue is rich in seaweed protein, trace elements, and biostimulants, which are good products for improving soil.
Fan Bin, director of the Seaweed Fertilizer Division of Shandong Jiejing Group, introduced that Shandong Jiejing Group has broken the industrial monopoly of the physical extraction of seaweed ingredients in foreign countries. The product damages the activity, without any addition, the entire industry chain can ensure that the activity of all kinds of biological stimulating substances is fully retained, and the product has been subjected to 1000 mesh ultrafiltration, the quality is very stable, and it is suitable for industrial applications.
Professor Shen Hong from the Root Control Research Office of the School of Resources and Environmental Sciences of South China Agricultural University shared the application of green seaweed liquid in agriculture in detail for the delegates. Shen Hong pointed out that seaweed extract contains a variety of ingredients, both growth-promoting substances and stress-resistant substances. Therefore, the definition of product functions should be based on its production process and raw materials.
Shen Hong mentioned that there is a big difference between the process of brown algae polyphenols and seaweed oligosaccharides. The molecular weight of brown algae polyphenols is 126~6500kDa, and it has strong water solubility. Its most significant activity is antioxidant activity, while seaweed oligosaccharides are seaweed. The small molecules formed by enzymatic hydrolysis of polysaccharides, and the small molecular oligosaccharides with a degree of polymerization of less than 10, whose biological activity is closely related to their structure, can improve resistance to abiotic stress and bacterial disease.
According to the annual distribution of seaweed oligosaccharide patent applications in the past 10 years, Shen Hong believes that seaweed oligosaccharides have great potential in agricultural additives, such as preservation of fruits and vegetables, nitrogen fertilizer efficiency, plant disease resistance, rice root promotion and cold protection, and induction of tobacco. Source IAA is very effective in synthesizing and improving fruit quality. Shen Hong specifically pointed out that because brown algae polyphenols and seaweed oligosaccharides are physiologically active substances, attention must be paid to active preservation during the compounding and use process.
Dr. Han Xiaoyang from Shandong Agricultural University shared the application of brown algae polyphenols on tea plants. Experiments show that under low temperature stress, the application of brown algae polyphenols is very beneficial to the growth of tea trees.
In addition, Fan Bin introduced the company’s brown algae polyphenol stock solution in detail with urea, boric acid, potassium humate, chitosan oligosaccharides and other substances, for the representatives of the alliance’s member companies. There was no flocculation. Tests have proved that the alkaline stability of brown algae oligosaccharides is better, and the stability is also better under acidic conditions above pH 4.5. The original solution of seaweed oligosaccharides and brown algae polyphenols can be used directly. However, the addition ratio and order of compound materials with other products should be further adjusted and explored according to the actual formula. Fan Bin emphasized that in the production of polyphenol fertilizers, the application of metal ion salts with stable metal ions such as EDTA or other raw materials that do not contain metal ions should be preferred.
